Safety Monitoring

Monitoring of noise or vibration signals from plant machinery or equipment under test is an important tool in protecting the safety and integrity of the equipment itself. Typical examples are for the development testing of new designs of equipment, for which predictions of vibration are available but measurements are not.

Gas Turbine EngineDuring the initial mapping of the operating envelope of some new machinery, it is highly advantageous to have the ability to identify such potentially dangerous conditions as flutter, surge, or rotating stall. Each of these conditions indicate that the safe operating envelope has been exceeded and that a change in operating condition is necessary in order to preserve the test article.

 

HGL's Hawkeye real-time plotting and alarm detection system provides effective and extremely powerful techniques for monitoring critical speeds and modes in real-time, on all channels simultaneously. Safety monitoring warnings and alarms are checked in the time domain and frequency domain, regardless of whether a user is looking at a particular channel or not. Operators may have multiple display screens showing real-time graphs from many channels, or may simply monitor the alarm status on a single screen.
