448-channel mobile system delivered to France

HGL Dynamics has developed and delivered a 448-channel mobile dynamic acquisition and monitoring system for a customer in Northern France. The system consists of 32-channel Eagle acquisition unit, each of which streams all digitised data in real time to a Hawk processing and recording unit.

All channels have fully programmable dynamic signal conditioning, with support for all sensor types used in aerospace propulsion testing.

All channels are fully synchronised, with simultaneous sampling between each channel.

Connected to HGL's Hercules data management system via Gigabit Ethernet, the system is capable of capturing data continuously at up to 256 kHz per channel, at 24-bit resolution, almost indefinitely.

The new Eagle units produced for this system are described as mobile, because for the first time they incorporate internal full signal conditioning technology, which in previous systems has been in external 4U 19" rack units (2 external units per Eagle). This represents a tremendous reduction in size and weight of the acquisition equipment. This reduction in size has only been possible by updating the Eagle product to exploit HGL's Dragonfly technology internally.

As with previous systems delivered in earlier years, the system provides multiple real-time monitoring screens so that the engineers and analysts can study the behaviour of their equipment under test as it happens.

22nd December 2011 - Dragonfly Flies Again!

HGL Dynamics has recently completed a successful flight test program on board a P3 Constellation using our rugged Dragonfly hardware platform.

19th November 2012 - HGL article in Aerospace Testing International Showcase 2013

Aerospace Testing International's Showcase for 2013 includes an article submitted by HGL. Written chiefly by Dr Jim Hone, the Managing Director, the title is "Economies of scalability".

The article describes recent trends in the miniaturisation of measurement devices. It goes on to explain why there are many different benefits which such miniaturisation can bring to the test measurement community.

The magazine publishers allowed us to use the Dragonfly acquisition platform as an illustrative example of the points made in the article.

The full article can be seen by clicking here (article will appear in a new tab).

One of our photos from the article also made it onto the front page! If you're interested, you can see that here (magazine will appear in a tab).

14th May 2010 - New HGL calibration service for Sony Data Recorders (USA Only)

Effective immediately, HGL Dynamics (in cooperation with Sony Manufacturing Systems America) is providing technical, application and calibration support for Sony’s PC, EX, and SIR Series Data Recorders for USA-based customers.

Sony’s recent departure from the data acquisition market created a question on how support was to be continued for the existing large user base. HGL’s support answers this question.

Sony Data Recorders represented a giant leap in data acquisition technology when released and are still relevant to today's recording needs. HGL Dynamcs has supported the Sony data formats in several of its own products over the past few years and believes that the classic recorder model still has a role to play into the future.

As such, HGL Dynamics is committed to providing a single point of contact for Sony PC, EX and SIR series recorders for technical and application support and for scheduled calibration. HGL is partnering with Sony's preferred calibration supplier in the USA (Excalibur Enginnering -http://www.excaliburengineering.com) to ensure the consistent high quality and competitive cost.

HGL Dynamics has a proven track record of offering solutions and expertise to the data acquisition market. For future product needs, HGL has recently introduced the HDR Series Data Recorder to complement its already trusted line of acquisition systems. The HDR meets the challenge of not only offering a truly compatible system to existing Sony users but also will allow the HDR to easily add advanced enhancements for acquisition and analysis requirements. This is accomplished by the HDR’s unique ability to:

  1. “Read” and “Write” Sony’s data format onto an AIT tape. This allows a recorded AIT Tape from a SIR1000 or HDR recorder be read from either unit.
  2. Perform direct analysis on the HDR and continue to record further data simultaneously.
  3. Combine the simplicity and functionality of a traditional recorder with the meta-data facilities of more expensive and complex systems through HGL’s development of innovative techniques.
